About the index

  • What it follows. The cheapest current price of widely listed skins across the marketplaces, one version of each, with every skin weighted equally.
  • How it moves. Each day it follows the average price change of the skins it tracks, so no single skin dominates it.
  • Where it starts. At 100, on the first day with enough priced skins. A change over 7, 30 or 90 days compares today with that long ago.
  • What it is not. It is not Steam Community Market data, a market capitalisation or a forecast. Knives and gloves are included and have their own rows above.

Questions about the index

Is the CS2 skin market up or down?

CS2 skin prices are down 8.8% over the past 30 days. The index stands at 68.6, which is 41.2% below its high. It follows widely listed skins, not every item.

What does the Gamezod CS2 skin index measure?

The cheapest current price across all eight marketplaces for the most listed skins in every weapon category, one version of each, with every skin weighted equally. It starts at 100 and moves each day by the average price change of those skins.

Why does the index use marketplace prices and not Steam prices?

Steam Community Market prices are paid in wallet funds that cannot be withdrawn, and Steam keeps a fee. The cheapest listing on the marketplaces is the price a buyer can actually pay for the item today, so that is what the index follows.

Is the index a market cap or a forecast?

No. It has no sales volume in it, so it is not a market capitalisation, and it says nothing about where prices go next. It shows how the prices of heavily listed skins moved.
