How long is the CS2 trade lock?
An item received in a Steam trade is trade-protected for 7 days. An item bought on the Steam Market is locked for 168 hours from the purchase. Steam shows the exact expiry on the item, and if it differs from this page, trust Steam.
Does a skin unlock at midnight?
No. Since June 2026 a market purchase unlocks 168 hours after the purchase, to the minute; before that, unlocks were batched at one moment per day. Each item in the calendar unlocks at its own time, and the day shown is the UTC date.
Can the sender take a trade back during protection?
Yes. During the 7 days of Trade Protection the sender can reverse the trade, which costs them a 30-day trade and market ban. A market purchase cannot be reversed. This is why you should never pay for skins outside Steam.
What can I not do with a protected item?
A trade-protected item cannot be sold on the market, traded, put into a trade-up contract or a storage unit, or included in a mixed trade. It can still be used in game.
Can a new mobile authenticator hold my trades?
Yes. A newly added mobile authenticator can hold trades for up to 15 days. Steam shows the exact date on the trade screen.
