Where can you trade TF2 items?

You can trade TF2 items two ways: with a trade bot, or directly with another player. A bot answers at once. A player-to-player trade depends on someone replying.

The table shows which sites offer bots, which offer peer-to-peer trading and which games each one covers.

How do TF2 trade bots work?

You sign in with Steam, pick the items you want to trade and the bot sends you an offer. It accepts your own offer automatically if it matches its price. That is faster than waiting days for a person to reply.

Bot or peer-to-peer trading?

  • Trade bot. Automatic, so there is nothing to negotiate. Tradeit, CS.Trade, Scrap.tf, Trade.tf, Mannco.trade and DMarket run bots.
  • Peer to peer. You agree the trade with another player, which can take days. Skinport, Trade.tf and DMarket offer it.

Which games do these sites cover?

Scrap.tf, Trade.tf and Mannco.trade cover TF2 only. Tradeit, CS.Trade and DMarket also cover CS2 and Rust. Skinport covers those two plus Dota 2.

What can you trade in TF2?

  • Hats and cosmetics
  • Strange-quality items
  • Weapons
  • Metals: Refined, Reclaimed and Scrap
  • Keys

Some sites specialise. Backpack.tf and Scrap.tf are used for trading hats, and DMarket focuses on keys and high-value items.

What do TF2 item qualities mean?

  • Normal. Stock weapons every player starts with. They can't be traded.
  • Unique. The standard yellow trading item, with no special effects.
  • Strange. Tracks kills, otherwise works like a unique item, and is worth slightly more.
  • Unusual and decorated. Rarer qualities that can raise an item's value a lot.

How do you avoid scams on TF2 trading sites?

Some fake bot sites ask you to deposit items first and then return nothing. Check the address before you sign in with Steam, and never share your Steam password or Steam Guard code. Price both sides of a trade on Backpack.tf before you accept.

Can you profit from TF2 trading?

Traders buy where an item is cheaper and sell where it is dearer. Fees and price swings cut into the gap, so a profit is never guaranteed.
